Galway Bay

Have you ever been across the sea to Rhodesia?
And stood there at the foot of Rhodes’s grave?
Or further north to a place called Bambazonke
Where live the men who wear the Green Beret?

Our playground is the great Zambezi Valley
Our pleasure is the public’s main concern
They ban us from their nightclubs and their parties
We are the men who wear the Tartan Green

Erect we stand on ceremonial occasions
Our colours fly for all the world to see
Our pride is our one and own distinction
We are the men who wear the Tartan Green

Have you ever been across the sea to Rhodesia?
And stood there at the foot of Rhodes’s grave?
Or further north to a place called Bambazonke
Where live the men who wear the Green Beret?

The Boxer

I am just a troopie
Though my story’s seldom told
I had signed up in the army
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
Oh what a c***
I have lost all my freedom
Just working like a zunt

I left my home and family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of barrack rooms at training us
Running scared
As though they never cared

Chorus
Oh what a snaai
La la la la la la la
Oh what a snaai
La la la la la la la lala lala la….

Now I’m jacking up my bedpack
And wishing I was gone, going home
Where the corporals and sergeants cannot pick on me
I do declare
There were times I was so lonesome
That I bordered on despair

Lili Marlene

Driving down to Salisbury at 90 miles an hour
We are the boys of the RLI, we are a f***ing shower
We can’t change up and we can’t change down
The gearbox is in but upside down
We are the boys of the RLI, we are a f***ing shower

Early in the morning on the muster parade
Our sergeant-major sings his serenade
Then some silly bastard shouts “Right dress!”
You should have seen the f***ing mess
We are the boys of the RLI, we are a f***ing shower

Walking through the valley, bullet up the spout
Looking for a terrorist that we can f*** about
Maybe we’ll find one, we hope tonight
Because we want a f***ing fight
We are the boys of the RLI, we are a f***ing shower

With a little help from my friends

What would you do if I stepped out of line?
And drove across the Holy Ground?
What would you do if while cleaning my gun
I accidentally let off a round?

Oh, I’d get 28 days in DB
Oh, I’d get 28 days in DB

What would you do if I went AWOL?
Because army life is too hard?
What would you do while walking around
You caught me while sleeping on guard?

Oh, I’d get 28 days in DB
Oh, I’d get 28 days in DB

Refrain 1
Do you need anybody?
I’ve got my mommy to love
Do you have any worries?
Just from the boss up above

What would you do if I scaled a cab?
And drove it all the way back to Burg?
What would you do if while out on patrol
You caught me screwing a local bird?

Oh, I’d get 28 days in DB
Oh, I’d get a serious case of VD

Refrain 2
Do you need anybody?
I’ve got my corporal to love
Do you have any worries?
Just from the boss up above

Country Roads

Chorus
Darwin Road, take me home
To the place I belong
Salisbury City, Bulawayo
Take me home, Darwin Road

In December 1972
The whole thing started involving me and you
Gotta keep on right into the night
Can’t give up now, keep on with the fight

Chorus

Not far from Darwin, northeastern border op
Mavuradona Mountains, down to Mukumbura
Life is hard there, it’s also very dry
‘Cause there is no water beneath the clear blue sky

Chorus

And then onto Op Newton, we ran a cordon round
RAR then swept through, Support Group got called in
K-Car then found them, and drilled about seven
Terrs got f***ed up, now they’re all in heaven

Chorus

Under JOC Mtoko, we went on Op Inlet
We were intervention, we ain’t stopped still yet
The Boss and the Pronto, they were feeling rugged
They went on a relay and now they’re kinda buggered
